LYNNWOOD, Wash. -- Dairy producers in Chehalis and Sunnyside have been appointed to the board of the Washington State Dairy Products Commission.

Michelle Schilter, a co-owner of Sunton farms near Chehalis, was appointed to a Western Washington at-large position. Dan DeGroot, owner of Skyridge Farms in Sunnyside, was appointed for District 3, representing Yakima, Benton and Klickitat counties.

DeGroot, married with four grown children, began dairy farming in Corona, Calif., in 1982 and has operated his family-owned dairy at Sunnyside since 1990. He has served on the state and Yakima County dairy federations.

Schilter, a self-professed "city kid," and her husband Lonny have three preteen children. She has been on the board of the state dairy federation and they are the current National Dairy Association President Couple and National Milk Producer Federation's 2011-2012 Young Cooperators chair couple.
