Waste Management of Oregon announced July 16 it will appeal a ruling by the Oregon Land Use Board of Appeals that blocks a planned expansion by Riverbend Landfill near McMinnville.

LUBA on July 6 ruled Yamhill County commissioners erred when they approved Riverbend's expansion by allowing an exception to a county ordinance that bans landfills on land zoned exclusive farm use.

Waste Management is the parent company of Riverbend Landfill.

The appeal goes to the Oregon Court of Appeals.

Waste Management also is asking the commissioners to change the county's zoning ordinance to allow landfills on EFU land.
