SALEM -- Oregon Ag Fest has announced that Canby FFA is the winner of its first Agricultural Education Award.

The chapter has won for its enhanced mobile classroom. It will receive a $1,000 check during an awards ceremony during the 25th annual Oregon Ag Fest celebration.

Imbler and Henley FFAs claimed second and third places, respectively: Imbler for its Ag in the Classroom program, and Henley for its education outreach efforts to local elementary schools.

Second and third place award winners will receive $600 and $400, respectively.

"We were inspired by the applications we received, and are proud to support the agricultural education outreach efforts of this year's student recipients," said Geoff Horning, chair of Oregon Ag Fest.

Ag Fest takes place April 28 and 29 at the Oregon State Fairgrounds in Salem. Hours are 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday and 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Sunday.

The awards ceremony is Saturday at 2 p.m. on the main stage in the Americraft Center.

Ag Fest is a hands-on celebration of Oregon agriculture, where children can plant seeds, ride ponies, watch chicks hatch and do other activities to learn where food and fiber originates.
