At its annual Tree Fair & Trade Show in September 2018, the Pacific Northwest Christmas Tree Association (PNWCTA) present a few prestige awards to notable members of the Christmas tree community.

Phil and Fran Hunter of The Wreath Works in Port Orchard, Ore., was awarded the 2018 Herb and Helen Plumb Award, which is the highest and most distinguished honor granted by PNWCTA for outstanding contributions to the Christmas tree industry.

Derald Hostetler of West Valley Tree Farms in Sheridan, Ore., were awarded the 2018  Barney Douglass award. This award recognizes individuals in the Christmas tree industry who have made outstanding contributions in the area of research and innovative technologies.

A Turkish-fir from Stroda Bros. Farm was honored as the grand champion at the 2018 annual PNWCTA Tree Fair & Trade Show. Stroda Bros. Farm is located in Monroe, Oregon, and owned by Kirk and JoLynn Stroda. Stroda Bros. Farm also took first place in the Table-top tree and Other Species categories, along with second place in the Grand fir category.

Ed and Cindy Hedlund of Hedlund Christmas Trees in Elma, Washington, won first place in the Grand fir, Noble fir, and Fraser fir categories, and second place in the Douglas-fir category.

First place in the Douglas-fir category was John Tillman, Tillman Christmas Trees in Elma, Washington, along with a second-place win in the Noble fir category.

Holiday Tree Farms in Corvallis, Oregon, won the third-place trophy in the Douglas-fir, Grand fir, Table-top, and Other Species categories.

Tying for first place in the Fun Tree category were Rene Scarcella from McMenomy Highland Tree Farm in LaCenter, Washington, and Phil and Fran Hunter from The Wreath Works in Port Orchard, Washington.

Rene Scarcella of McMenomy Highland Tree Farm placed first in both the Home Decorations and Decorated Wreath categories.

The Undecorated Wreath award went to Esther Zalvidar of Snowshoe Evergreen in Orting, Washington.

Winners in the tree and wreath categories are eligible to compete with growers from other states at a national convention for the honor of supplying a future Christmas tree to the White House.

The Pacific Northwest Christmas Tree Association is comprised of grower, retailer and supplier members from Oregon, Washington, California, Idaho and British Columbia.
