The 28th annual PABCO bull sale February 9, 2019 at the Central Oregon Livestock Auction in Madras, OR was well attended for the steak lunch sponsored by NW Farm Credit Services, Zoetis, Central Oregon Ranch Supply, Oregon Feed & Irrigation, and Megan Powers from Keller Williams Realty. Bobbi Aldrich once again out did herself preparing the meal. Trent Stewart was the auctioneer on the block, ring men Kelly Trout, from the American Angus Ass. and Logan Ipsen from the Western Livestock Journal were present to keep track of an active group of bidders, who braved the snowy weather.
The sale started at 12:30 with 4 pens of fancy open replacement heifers. Consignors were Cheryl Simmons of Culver, OR (1 pen of 5 ) and NV Cattle of Powell Butte, OR (3 pens totaling 14 head). Top selling heifer pens were purchased by Splitting Aces Livestock, of Sisters OR and Crump Ranches of Redmond OR.
The bull sale included 47 yearling bulls, grossed sales on the bulls were $150,000; overall average of $3,192 per head; 30 calving ease bulls averaged $3,200 and 17 growth bulls averaged $3,180.
The champion growth bull lot 14, NX 9 Knight 844 was consigned by NX Cattle Co. of Powell Butte, OR, he sold for $4,750 to John & Alexa Maley of Princeton, OR. The champion calving ease bull lot 61, NV Titlest 803 was consigned by NV Cattle, he sold to OO7 Black Angus, Mitchell, OR. The high selling bull lot 37, L&M Dividend 786 was consigned by L&M Cattle, Powell Butte, OR, he sold for $5,250 to Obendorf Farms, Jordan Valley, OR.
The volume buyers for the sale were; Six Shooter Ranch of Mitchell, OR purchased 7 bulls and John & Alexa Maley of Princeton, OR purchased 5 bulls.
