Expo offers full slate of classes

Forklift certification training will be offered Wednesday, Nov. 14, at the Willamette Valley Ag Expo. Advance registration is required online at www.wvaexpo.com.

CORE training classes will be offered Tuesday, Nov. 13, and Thursday, Nov. 15, at the Willamette Valley Ag Expo as part of a full slate of educational and training opportunities.

No pre-registration is required. Expo admission is $4 at the door, and parking is free, CORE courses are complimentary with Expo admission. Each one hour of class time equals one credit. Oregon and Washington Department of Ag recertification credits apply.

10:30-11:30 a.m. Pesticide Human Health Risk Assessment. Presented by Jeffrey Jenkins. A general discussion of the basic principles of toxicology and key elements of pesticide human health risk assessment applied to a glyphosate case study.

11:30-noon. A System Approach to Water Quality Assessment in Oregon Watersheds. Presented by Jeffrey Jenkins. Introduction to the Oregon State University Watershed Assessment Framework, a systems approach employing monitoring, modeling and geospatial analysis to aid in stakeholder evaluation of alternative IPM practices and BMPs designed to reduce pesticide surface water loading.

Lunch break

2–3 p.m. Worker Protection Standard — What Agricultural Employers Need to Know. Presented by Kaci Buhl. The class will cover the requirements for agricultural employers under the WPS, as revised in 2015. Provisions for training, central posting, decontamination requirements and other topics will be discussed, with questions and answers.

3-4 p.m. Oregon Department of Agriculture Update/Lessons Learned. Presented by Andrea Sonnen. A brief overview of updates to laws and regulations and a look at several cases from the previous year detailing lessons learned.

10:30 a.m.-12:15 p.m. CPR/AED Training (Standard First Aid included). Pacific Health & Safety will provide authorized health and safety training at the 2018 Willamette Valley Ag Expo. This course will cover CPR & choking emergencies for ages 8 and over, AED training for adult and child victims, and first aid for basic injuries and sudden illnesses. Certification from this course is valid for 2 years. Cost: $30. Register ahead of time online at http://wvaexpo.com/classes/

10:30 a.m. Forklift Certification Training. (Advance registration required.) Includes classroom session, workbook, written knowledge check verification with a scheduled practical driving evaluation immediately following. Proof of successful completion of course, knowledge check and practical driving evaluation included. Program and equipment provided by Papé Material Handling and Overton Safety Training. Class size limited to 40 people. Advance registration required online at www.wvaexpo.com. This class is free with paid admission. Class size limited to 40 people. All materials and instruction are provided in English.

1:30-2:45 p.m. Standard First Aid Training. Pacific Health & Safety will provide authorized health and safety training. This course will cover First Aid for basic injuries and sudden illnesses.
