Shelly Boshart and Macey Wessels bought Boshart Trucking from Shelly’s father and mother, Stan and Lori Boshart, on July 1, thus ensuring the Tangent, Ore., company will endure as a family operation into the foreseeable future.
Stan Boshart and his brother, Gene, started the company in 1983.
And, Shelly Boshart said recently, they will also continue the company’s nearly decade-long relationship with the Willamette Valley Ag Expo.
“We have a vendor space at one of the larger booths when you first walk into the Expo,” she said of the Nov. 13-15 event. “Our main purpose there is for meeting with growers, of which we have about 35 throughout the valley that we bale grass straw for.”
Boshart Trucking has over the years gradually moved into custom grass straw baling, then formed a division — PressCo — to compress bales for the export market.
Today, Boshart Trucking hauls over 50,000 metric tons of grass seed straw from surrounding fields each harvest season, with about two-thirds of it being baled by one of their crews. The remaining straw is baled by others hired through a third company division, BOSSCO Trading LLC.
“At Expo,” Boshart said, “our main purpose is to have a place where we can see all the growers at one time, because most of them will come in at one time or the other” during the three days of the event.
During the past several years, Boshart Trucking also has sponsored transportation for FFA members during the Wednesday FFA activities, she said.
“That’s our main purpose,” she said, “just to have a presence there (at the Expo).”
Boshart said that as new owners, she will still do marketing and sales for the expanding company, while Wessels will concentrate on operations.
“We’re excited to be able to continue on with our company’s success and still keep with its values of hard work, community and family,” Boshart said. “That’s what we’ve really been based upon and what we will continue doing.”
