USDA awards grants for specialty crops

One of the larger federal grants awarded Oct. 2 to promote specialty crops went to a Washington State University professor researching how to grow hops good enough for choosy craft brewers.

Small-scale beer-makers pour in the hops, compared to large brewers, creating more demand for hops that can make the grade, WSU entomology professor Doug Walsh said.
