Receipts: 356 HD

Comments: Monday’s regular cattle sale featured over 350 head, with a good supply of cows and bulls and a good run of pairs. Slaughter cows were stronger, with a top of 78 cents per pound, and an average price of 66 to 67 cents. Slaughter bulls were steady, topping out at 98 cents, and an average of 88-93 cents per pound. Cow calf pairs were just above splitting price, with mid age and older cows with fresh calves at side bringing $1050-1150 per pair. Young pairs with fresh calves brought $1150-$1250 per pair. Pairs with bigger calves at side were split. Baby calves brought $200-$475 per head. Not enough feeder cattle for a true test, though 600-700 weight steers brought $1.44, with an average of $1.29, while heifers brought $1.14 to $1.20. Next Monday, May 24, we’ll have a feeder special and we will be off the following week for Memorial Day.
