MEDFORD, Ore. (AP) — The city of Medford is two weeks away from recording its driest calendar year since records were first kept in 1911.

The final weeks of December are typically very wet, but the Mail Tribune reports ( ) that not even the usual rainfall of 1.28 inches between Thursday and New Year’s Day would stop Medford from breaking its record.

The National Weather Service has measured just 8.97 inches of rain since Jan. 1. The current record of 10.43 inches was set in 1959.

The average is 18.35 inches in a year at the Medford airport.
