SALEM, Ore. (AP) -- A food bank has received one of its largest donations -- eight semi-truckloads of food from Salem processor Truitt Bros.

Chet Thomas, purchasing manager for the Salem company, says it decided to donate at least 180,000 pounds of food to the Marion-Polk Food Share after one of its customers discounted the products. Food Share's director of development, Phil McCorkle, calls it a wonderful donation that will have a big impact.

The food includes beans, chili, beef, pork and chicken. McCorkle says the food bank is seeing record-high levels of demand, with at least 100,000 pounds of food distributed to needy families each week.
