PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) -- Authorities say a 70-year-old Scappoose woman was airlifted to a Portland hospital after she was thrown from a horse that had been spooked by a swarm of bees.

The Clackamas County Sheriff's Office says Donna Tewksbury and four other women were riding on the Pacific Crest Trail when the bees swarmed Sunday afternoon. Tewksbury and her horse both went to the ground.

The horse then stepped on the woman when it tried to stand.

Detective Jim Strovink said Monday that Tewksbury's condition is reported to be stable, and the horse was not injured.
