JACKSON, Miss. (AP) -- Land O'Lakes Purina Feed LLC has initiated a limited voluntary recall of a single lot of a Country Acres poultry feed in 50-pound sacks.
The St. Paul, Minn.-based company said Tuesday, Oct. 13, that the feed has the potential to adversely affect bird growth and development and possibly cause death in extreme cases because of a lower -than-formulated protein level.
The recall was initiated after an investigation discovered there was a manufacturing error in one lot.
The product was manufactured in Louisiana and was distributed to dealers in a four-state region -- Louisiana, southern Mississippi, southern Arkansas and eastern Texas.
Dealers have been contacted and asked to hold these products and to notify and retrieve the product from customers. The affected product should be returned to the retail dealer and not used.
The feed is typically used by small-flock owners. The recalled product is Country Acres Home Grown Turkey & Quail Starter, Lot No. 9AUG20ARC1.
Lot numbers are printed on the sewing strip of each bag. Lot numbers are formatted as follows: 9AUG20ARC1, 9Year / AUG Month / 20Day of Month / ARC1 Plant Code.
Customers who purchased the product are eligible for a full refund.
For more information on the product recall, contact local dealers or the company's customer service at 1-800-227-8941 between the hours of 8:30 a.m. and 4 p.m. Central time, Monday through Friday.
