DES MOINES, Iowa (AP) -- A report that U.S. Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack and his wife, Christie, are buying a residence in Ames is expected to raise speculation that she will run for Congress in Iowa's newly drawn 4th District.
Matt Paul worked for Tom Vilsack when Vilsack was Iowa governor. Paul told The Des Moines Register that the Vilsacks had "completed a transaction and are moving to Ames."
Paul would not say whether Christie Vilsack would seek the Democratic nomination to face Rep. Steve King, a Republican. Paul would say only that there will be an announcement soon.
The new configuration puts King and the current 4th District representative, Republican Tom Latham, in the same district. But Latham says he'll move to the 3rd District, represented by Democrat Leonard Boswell.
