The name of Patrick Capper, director of government relations for the Oregon Association of Nurseries, was misspelled in a Jan. 7 story.

Clarification

Capital Press reported that Fiscalini Farms in Modesto, Calif., was the first in North America to undergo an independent audit to certify that its animal welfare practices were good. A third-party certification company called Validus Services, based in Des Moines, Iowa, handled the process. That occurred in 2007.

However, a spokeswoman for Clover Stornetta Farms said the California dairy "became the first (and only, at the time) dairy to be certified by the American Humane Association for our animal welfare program, American Humane Certified." That occurred in 2000.
