LINCOLN, Neb. (AP) -- Numbers from the Nebraska statistics office of the U.S. Department of Agriculture show the amount of corn and wheat in storage is up significantly from last year.
The service says 196 million bushels of corn were in storage on Sept. 1, up 18 percent from the same date in 2008. Stored wheat was at 80.2 million bushels on Sept. 1, up 36 percent from a year ago.
Two other major crops have seen storage drop. Numbers show 8.2 million bushels of soybeans were in storage by Sept. 1, down 45 percent from last year. Sorghum stored was at 3.2 million bushels, down 55 percent from last year.
