A gray wolf. A hunting group in Wisconsin sued to open the season on wolves.

WALLOWA COUNTY, Ore. — Another wolf attack was confirmed by the Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife on March 29  north of Enterprise, according to an April 5 press release.

One injured 10-day-old calf was found on private land  in the Sled Springs Wildlife Management Unit along Lower Promise Road, ODFW reported. The suspected wolf pack was not identified.

A previous depredation was confirmed by ODFW on March 6 when a dead bull was found on private land east of Flora. That attack was attributed to the Grouse Flats Pack, which primarily resides in Washington but its territory extends into Oregon and has frequented the Flora area during the past two winters. The Grouse Flats Pack is estimated to include eight wolves.

On March 8, ODFW authorized lethal removal of up to two wolves from the Grouse Flats Pack. The permit is good until April 30 on private land.
