For the 37 members of the Chelan FFA who exhibited animals, the fall fair season was a major success. They kicked off with the NCW District Fair in Waterville. Chelan members exhibited 2 beef, 14 sheep, 16 Goats, 23 pigs and 1 Horse in the livestock barns. Standouts were Dane Schwartz earning the Reserve Grand Champion Swine Showman, Jessie Oules Grand Champion Market Lamb, Anna Doty was the Champion Ewe Lamb, and Josie Gallup had the Champion Pen of Three Market Lambs. Henry Suarez had the Reserve Champion Meat Goat. Madison Harrison brought home the Grand Champion Horse Fitting and Showing, Western Equitation, English Equitation, Bareback Equitation, Trail, and Reserve Champion Halter Horse.
Members also excelled in the FFA Still Life Barn. Agriculture Mechanics Grand Champion-Bobby Hanson, Reserve Champion Jake Straub.. Overall Horticulture, Grand Champion Bobby Hanson, Reserve Champion, Apol Blanco. Agronomy Grand Champion, Dane Schwartz, Reserve Grand Champion, Jake Straub. Floral Grand and Reserve Champion went to Drew Morris. Fruit Grand Champion was Bryce Robison. Vegetable Grand and Reserve Champion was Apol Blanco.
In the FFA Competitions, Chelan brought home the 1st place banner in Livestock Judging with Amanda Reeves 2nd individual, Emily Mudd 3rd, Drew Morris 5th and Apol Blanco 9th, and Dane Schwartz 10th. In Tractor Driving, Chelan also earned a 1st place banner with Michael Tutino placing 2nd, Logan Fifer 3rd, and Luke Gleasman 7th. Chelan earned the 2nd place banner is Horse Judging with Josie Gallup 3rd, Katie Gleasman 6th, and Dane Schwartz 10th.
At the Chelan County Fair, the members of the Chelan County Fair continued their winning ways.
In the Livestock Barns, Logan Fifer had the Reserve Champion Market Steer. Jonathan Zeyela had the Grand Champion Hog, Jessie Oules had the Grand Champion Market Lamb, Amanda Reeves the Reserve Champion Market Lamb, Grand Champion Ewe Josie Gallup, and Henry Suarez had the Reserve Champion Meat Goat. On Show day, Apol Blanco was the Grand Champion Swine Showman with Dane Schwartz earning Reserve Champion Swine Showman. Amanda Reeves was the Grand Champion Sheep Showman. Mikaila Harrison earned the Reserve Champion Halter Horse, Grand Champion Western Equitation, Dane Schwartz also earned the Reserve Grand Champion in Round Robin where showman show each species.
In the FFA still life barn, Chelan members also continued to dominate the competition. Grand champion overall horticulture went to Bobby Hanson, Reserve grand champion went to Dane Swartz. Grand Champion Fruit, Dane Schwartz, Reserve Champion Jesus Rodriguez. Champion Vegetable went to Apol Blanco and Reserve Champion was Bobby Hanson. Grand Champion Eggs went to Bobby Hanson. Grand and Reserve Champion Art Project was Josie Gallup. Grand and Reserve Photography went to Romaine Doty. Grand and Reserve Ornamental Horticulture went to Drew Morris. Grand Champion Agronomy was Dane Schwartz with Bobby Hanson with Reserve. Bobby Hanson also earned Grand and Reserve Champion Agricultural Mechanics. In the Commercial Apple Trays, Chelan members Dane Schwartz, Jesus Rodriguez, and Neil Carleton all earned rosettes.
In the FFA Contests, Chelan brought home the 1st place banner in Livestock Judging with Jessie Oules 1st, Drew Morris 2nd, and Amanda Reeves 3rd. In Poultry Judging Chelan also brought home a 1st place Banner with Dane Schwartz 2nd, Henry Suarez 4th, Apol Blanco 5th, Stephanie Olivera 6th, and Sarah Goyne 8th.
The horse team placed 5th with Allie Barnes earning 2nd place honors. The Tractor team brought home the 2nd place banner with Jake Straub 3rd, Jake Horlebien 5th, Logan Fifer 8th, and Michael Tutino 9th. Chelan also earned a 2nd Place Banner in Produce Judging with Chris Lloyd placing 5th, Sarah Goyne 6th, Bobby Hanson 8th, Rhiannon Davis 9th, and Jonathan Zeyela 10th. Based on how they placed in all CDEs, the Chelan FFA brought home the 1st Place Sweepstakes banner as well.
Another great fair season for the Chelan FFA and members now set their sights on performing well at the Fall Career Development Events in State Tractors, State Apples, and State Potato Grading. In addition, they will represent the State of Washington in the National Forestry CDE at Louisville, KY in late October.
