SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (AP) -- The Minnehaha County Commission has approved a 400-cow feedlot operation.
Commissioners on Tuesday voted 3-2 in favor of Scott Swanson's proposed cattle feeding operation two miles northwest of Crooks.
Karin Renner, whose family lives a half-mile from the proposed operation, says the feedlot plan raises environmental and health concerns.
Swanson was approved for a 999-head cattle-feeding operation in 2007 but never acted on the permit, citing financial reasons.
Because the operation has been scaled back, Swanson is not required by state law to eliminate drainage of animal waste.
