PERRIS, Calif. (AP) -- Authorities say a toddler narrowly escaped injury when an escaped bull charged him in a rural area of Riverside County.

An animal control officer says 2-year-old Daniel Munoz and his older sister were playing in their yard Monday when the 500-pound bull appeared in an adjacent field.

Animal control spokesman John Welsh says the bull rammed a chain link fence, which hit Daniel in the head and knocked him down. His sister was not hurt.

Welsh says animal control officers surrounded the bull with their vehicles, loaded it into a trailer and will examine its brand to figure out who owns it.

The toddler's mother, Esmeralda Avilez, took him to the hospital, where he was treated and quickly released.
