Dairy Farmers of America is using Dairy Month and social media to raise awareness of the summer nutrition gap for students who rely on school lunch programs.
It is also rallying around the power of social media to help fill that gap by providing milk to food banks across the country.
For each post on Facebook, Instagram or Twitter using #GiveMilkMoney, DFA will donate one gallon of milk to youngsters in need through Feeding America.
The campaign is supported by celebrity chef Christina Tosi, whose father worked in USDA’s Dairy Division and whose mother sent her home to an Ohio dairy farm every summer.
The summer nutritional gap is felt by nearly 18 million students across the country — almost twice the population of New York City, DFA stated in a press release.
