Members of the International Dairy Foods Association will be in Washington D.C. on Tuesday to oppose supply management ahead of the Senate Ag Committee's mark up a farm bill on Wednesday.

The processors will urge the committee to oppose government-imposed limits on milk supply contained in the Dairy Security Act, H.R. 3062, introduced by Rep. Collin Peterson, D-Minn., which is included in the draft 2012 Farm Bill.

They will instead urge the committee to adopt an insurance-based safety net for dairy farmers, which is also included in Peterson's bill and based on a proposal by National Milk Producers Federation.

The meeting is set for 10 a.m. at the National Press Club. Scheduled to testify are Jerry Slominski of IDFA, David Ahlem of Hilmar Cheese Company, Jon Davis of Davisco Foods International and Jerome Cheese, and Miriam Erickson Brown of Anderson Erickson Dairy.
