RED BLUFF, Calif. - Tehama, Alameda and Marin counties and their neighbors have been named as eligible for USDA emergency farm loans because of losses from drought damage this year. Farmers in those counties have eight months to apply for the loans to help cover part of their actual losses, a news release explains.

Davis avocado classes unveiled

DAVIS, Calif. - University studies have been unveiled that examine costs for establishing and producing conventional and organic avocados in Ventura, Santa Barbara, San Luis Obispo, San Diego and Riverside counties.

The four new University of California studies use analysis based on hypothetical farm operations using practices common to those areas.

Various eligibility requirements apply, such as whether the farm as suffered at least a 30 percent loss and whether the farm was unable to find credit elsewhere. Applicants must complete certifications of disaster losses.
