The Chelan FFA continued their march toward the 82nd Washington State Convention and State Career Development Event competition at the District VII FFA Agriculture Issues Forum, Job Interview, and Marketing Plan CDE.Â Â Â Eight members punched their tickets into State competition.
The Marketing Plan CDE Team developed a marketing plan for the Novelty Apple Co.Â and new local agribusiness that sell gift box apples and pears.Â The team presents both a written portfolio and a 15 minute marketing presentation.Â The team placed 1st and will represent District VII in the State CDE.Â Team members were Sammi Jo Cool, Zaren Sandum, and James Blixt.
The Agriculture Issues Forum team is chooses an issue currently being discussed in the local, regional, or national arena, research both sides of issue and present it in such a fashion that the audience will hear both sides of an issue and can formulate their own opinion from the information presented.Â Students are not allowed to pose solutions, only the facts.Â The team of Jorge Villasenor, Franklin Rosas, Ellie Vold, and Mikki Litterell earned the 1st place banner and a trip to state with their presentation on Wolves and Ranchers.Â April Rosas, Lupe Villasenor, and Mikiya Stowe earned the 3rd place banner and spot in the lottery for state competition with presentation on Food Imports.
The competitors in the Job Interview CDE have to prepare a resume and cover letter prior to the event.Â Complete an interview, fill out a job application, and write a follow up letter at the event.Â Lupe Villasenor placed 1st and Jorge Villasenor was 3rd. Â
The next competition for the Chelan FFA is on Wednesday April 20th in Chelan for the District VII Leadership CDE for Prepare Public Speaking, Extemporaneous Public Speaking, Rituals, Creed Speaking and Parliamentary Procedure.Â Â The Chelan Chapter will send 3 Public Speakers, 2 Extemp Speakers, 2 Creed Speakers, and a rituals team into District Competition vying for the two berths into state competition from District VII.Â The Forestry CDE team will also be in action with the âtimber beastsâ traveling to Squilchuck State Park for the 17th annual NCW Forestry CDE on April 22nd and to Chewelah for the Washington State FFA Forestry CDE on Friday April 29th.Â The Livestock team will compete in the Washington State Livestock CDE on Wednesday May 4th at the Spokane Jr. Livestock Show.Â The Meats CDE team will also compete at Spokane in their last tune up before state. Â
The chapter hopes to qualify around 30 members to compete in CDEs duringÂ the 82nd Washington State FFA Convention on the campus of Washington State University in Pullman May 12-14th.Â Members will be competing in Meats, Farm Business Management, First Year CDE, Marketing Plan, Job Interview, Agriculture Issues Forum, and any competitions that they qualify for on April 20th.Â 4 members will receive their State FFA Degree, 1 their American FFA Degree, 4 State Proficiency Winners,Â 2 State Star Candidates, and 1 State Officer Candidate.Â
