CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa (AP) -- A federal judge has refused to dismiss charges against a former manager at a kosher slaughterhouse in northeast Iowa.
Sholom Rubaskin faces immigration, bank fraud, wire fraud and mail fraud charges. He was an executive at the former Agriprocessors Inc. plant in Postville, the site of a massive immigration raid in May 2008.
Rubashkin's attorneys asked a judge in August to dismiss all 163 charges on grounds that prosecutors improperly used grand jury hearings to "lock in" witness testimony.
U.S. District Judge Linda Reade on Thursday rejected claims that prosecutors abused their power.
Rubashkin and three co-defendants are to stand trial on Oct. 13 in Sioux Falls, S.D.
