BOWLING GREEN, Ky. (AP) -- Cattle farmers in Kentucky are keeping a close eye on herds after at least three instances of theft.

The Barren County Sheriff's Office says thieves strike in the middle of the night, loading the cattle into a large stock trailer.

Cattle producer Michael Allen told WBKO-TV in Bowling Green he usually checks on his livestock two or three times a day during calving season. He noticed some of his cattle were gone on Saturday. Allen said the thieves cut a fuse to turn off a security light and an electric fence on his fam.

Authorities say about 20 animals have been rustled in three known instances.

The sheriff's office hopes someone who saw something unusual will call in a tip that could help solve the thefts.
