BILLINGS, Mont. (AP) -- Saturday's auction appears set for 829 horses found abandoned and starving this winter.
The Billings Gazette reports a preview of the horses will run all day Friday at the Home Place Ranch 16 miles southeast of Billings.
Bidding begins Saturday morning.
Bureau of Indian Affairs Regional Director Ed Parisian says he expects people to come in from across the nation for the sale.
The BIA confiscated the horses after owner James Leachman failed to move them from neighboring ranches and Crow tribal lands.
The animals have been fed donated hay since January.
Leachman has pleaded not guilty to charges of animal cruelty. His trial is scheduled for June 3.
