Oregon wolves kill two more calves, injure two others

Wolves killed one calf and injured another in Wallowa County in late August, killed still another calf in Grant County and injured a calf in Wasco County, according to the Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife.

The Bear Creek pack was responsible for both recent depredations in Wallowa County, according to the agency’s list of wolf attacks, which was updated Aug. 30.

Investigation into the killing of the seven-month-old calf started Aug. 27 on public land near Deer Creek.

A five-month-old calf was injured on private land near Bear Creek in Wallowa County on Aug. 25.

The Bear Creek pack also injured two calves in separate attacks in July. 

A three-month-old calf was injured by White River wolves in Wasco County Aug. 22. That attack occurred in McCubbins Gulch on private land.

In Grant County, a six-month-old calf was killed by the Logan Valley pack on public land on the Crane Prairie on Aug. 21.

ODFW killed a juvenile wolf from the Logan Valley pack on Aug. 24 in response to livestock attacks.

The agency authorized lethal removal of one of the wolves from that pack Aug. 23.

Two other wolf depredations occurred in August in Grant County.

The Logan Valley Pack was responsible for one livestock attack where a five-month-old calf was killed on public land on the Crane Prairie. An investigation started in that case on Aug. 8.

The other depredation, on Aug. 2, resulted in an injured three-month-old calf on private land and involved a wolf or wolves from the Bear Valley area.

The Logan Valley pack also injured four cows in two separate attacks in May in Grant County.
