SALINAS, Calif. -- Central Coast growers, processors and shippers reached a milestone last week of having donated 200 million pounds of fresh produce through their Ag Against Hunger campaign.
The 22-year-old program involves agribusinesses in Monterey, Santa Cruz and San Benito counties who collect surplus vegetables and fruit to give to area food banks.
Recipients have included the homeless as well as working poor and middle class families, the campaign noted in a news release.
