The Northwest Horse Fair and Expo, presented by Bison Coach, will feature a top-notch group of clinicians and equine entertainment, celebrating the spirit of the horse! The Northwest Horse Fair features world class horse trainers and riders, a multitude of horse breed demonstrations and exhibits, an enormous trade show, education through clinics, lectures and demos, and riveting equestrian entertainment – all for the enjoyment of Northwest horse lovers! The expo, now in it’s 14th year, runs March 21 through 24, 2013 at the Linn County Fair and Expo Center in Albany, Oregon.
Equine experts will provide clinics and lectures throughout the weekend, including: World Champion rider and trainer Chris Cox Horse Training sessions; Steve Edwards working with Mules and Donkeys; Mark Bolender conducting Competitive Trail clinics; Cliff Swanson presenting Western Dressage and Driving; Jochen Schleese with SaddleFit4Life®; Rick Lamb from RFD-TV’s Horse Show Live; Kristina Harrison providing Dressage clinics; Peggy Cummings giving Connected Riding® presentations; Raye Lochert offering General Training; and Northwest area trainer Jasmine Lechner-Cyphert teaching Horsemanship. International instructors Jim Masterson, Equine Massage specialist, and Carole Herder of Cavallo Horse & Rider are also among the expert presenters.
The All Breed Challenge is back for its second exciting year, as horses and riders from all disciplines are invited to show off their riding and training skills, and compete for $3,000 in cash and additional prizes! Contestants will negotiate a variety of obstacles and challenges from multiple riding disciplines, including jumping, trail, timed events, reining, dressage, and much more! Horses and riders will be judged on accuracy, horsemanship, equitation and attitude of the horses. “This event provides the perfect opportunity for Northwest riders to ‘strut their stuff’, showcasing their training partnerships with their horses, and their horsemanship skills!” said John Cloe, Event Founder and Manager. “This is a challenging, fun competition. Horse enthusiasts can get a sneak peek at the expo’s exhilarating entertainment on Thursday evening, March 21, at the Equine Extravaganza, sponsored by KRKT. Dynamic dancing horses, thrilling tricks with horses, action-packed precision choreography on horseback, costumes, color and much more, provide a fun-filled evening with horses, sure to delight audiences young and old! The Black Pearl Friesian Dance Troupe will perform with their fabulous high-stepping black horses, and the Rock ‘N’ Roll Cowgirls Drill Team will speed through fast paced drills on horseback! Spectators will learn a whole new meaning to “having a ball” as they see soccer played on horseback! All this and more plus the first round of the All Breed Challenge, where spectators can root for their favorite contestant as the competition gets underway!
And there’s shopping – in the huge trade show! Nearly 70,000 square feet of space will house vendors from all over the United States, offering a multitude of items for horse owners and horse lovers, including trailers, tack, clothing, feed, farm products, gifts, services, and much more.
The Breed Showcase and Stallion Reviews will offer an array of demonstrations by horses representing a wide range of breeds. Among the sites audiences can see: horses decked out in authentic Cavalry gear; tiny miniature donkeys; prancing horses; sliding and reining horses; and horses that are led, ridden and driven. Big and small, stocky and sleek, a variety of equine will be on hand to demonstrate the diversity of the equine.
The Northwest Horse Fair and Expo will once again offer a Food Drive Benefit. Friday attendees will receive $1 off gate admission in return for their donation of non-perishable food item(s), to benefit the Albany Helping Hands Homeless Shelter. Expo attendees may bring their food donation to the entrance gate and receive their ticket price discount at that time. Limit one discount per person; discount off regular gate admission only.
There is an opportunity for youth to get in free for one day, at the Northwest Horse Fair. Youth Day, sponsored by KMTR-TV, is Sunday March 24 at the Northwest Horse Fair and Expo. All children 12 years and under, get in free with a paid adult admission that day, plus 4-H and Pony Club members ages 13 to 18 get in free with their club ID cards. “We’re proud to offer Youth Day, to thank the clubs that educate young people about horses, and to support the future of the horse industry,” said Mr. Cloe. “And of course all children aged 5 and under, are welcome daily at our expo for no charge, when accompanied by a paid adult admission.”
Ticket prices are also discounted if purchased in advance for the Northwest Horse Fair and Expo. Advance tickets are $10 per day for adults and $5 per day for children aged 6 to 12. Tickets at the gate are $12 per day for adults and $6 per day for children 6 to 12; and children 5 and under get in free. Cash only for tickets purchased at the gate. Advance tickets are available starting mid-January at all Coastal stores, at the Linn County Fair & Expo Center and at additional retail locations throughout Oregon and Washington. Applications are now being accepted for participants in the Northwest Horse Fair and Expo. Openings are available for: trade show vendors; sponsorships; Breed Showcase and Stallion Review participants; advertising in the event Program; clinic participants; and All Breed Challenge competitors.
