Eastern Oregon Livestock Show

I would like to begin by listing a few things I witnessed last weekend.  A 300 pound pig running around the ring at full speed, a Union high schooler sing E-I-E-I-O in front of a sizable crowd of her peers, and two sixteen year-old boys scream little girls when they reached the top of the Zipper.  And where did all these things take place? The 2012 Eastern Oregon Livestock show.  If you haven’t heard of it, EOLS is the biggest livestock gathering in Eastern Oregon, and it has been going on for 105 glorious years.  The kids are diligent, the nights are crazy, and the burgers… well they are yet to be surpassed. The kids competing with their carefully crafted livestock spent two long days being evaluated on their animal’s market aptitude, and their own ability to show it off.  Here, we would like to list a few awards that were received at this year’s Stockshow.

Because of the tremendous community support poured into this show, the kids were able to collectively earn over a quarter of a million dollars.  Much of this money funds college expensive when the exhibitors graduate. I would also like to thank everybody who works to make EOLS possible, as it is all volunteer run.  If you are interested in helping in future years, we highly encourage you to do so, as it always proves to be a good time!
