WSU dedicates new organic farm site

PULLMAN, Wash. -- Washington State University dedicates its new Eggert Family Organic Farm at 3:30 p.m. Oct. 13 on the east edge of the university's campus.

In April the university announced a $5 million donation by Chuck and Louanna Eggert, founders of Pacific Natural Foods and WSU alumni. The Eggert family will attend.

The move expands the WSU Organic Farm from 4 acres to nearly 30 acres. The expansion provides WSU with the largest organic teaching farm on a university campus in the U.S., according to the university.

Speakers include WSU President Elson Floyd and Dan Bernardo, vice president of agriculture and extension.

"This is a game changer for the program," said John Reganold, WSU regents professor in soil science and agroecology and leader of WSU's organic agriculture major. "This investment by the Eggert family greatly expands the opportunities provided by the organic farm and major for students at WSU."

The ceremony is free and open to the public.
