National Sheep/Wool Reports Compiled by USDA Market News Service, Greeley, Colo.-San Angelo, Texas

Wool prices in cents per pound and foreign currency per kilogram, sheep prices in dollars per hundredweight (cwt.) except some replacement animals on per head basis as indicated.

NATIONAL WOOL REVIEW

Feb. 1

Domestic wool trading on a clean basis was slow this week. There were no confirmed sales. Warehouses are beginning to see some wool come in. Sellers are very reluctant to market wool at this time due to limited volume available and foreign demand is showing signs of increasing in the last few weeks. Very little if any wool has been forward contracted due to increasing demand overseas. Demand light to moderate. Domestic wool trading on a greasy basis was slow this week. There were no confirmed sales.

Domestic Wool Tags-delivered to buyer, greasy basis:

#2 $.25-.35

#3 $.10-.20

The FSA effective LDP rate for wool is unchanged at $0 per pound. The FSA effective LDP rate for mohair is unchanged at $0 per pound.

Feb. 1

Compared to last week slaughter lambs were $5-10 higher at New Holland, Pa., and at San Angelo, Texas, heavy slaughter lambs were steady to $5 lower and light slaughter lambs steady.

Slaughter ewes were steady to $10 lower. Feeder lambs were steady to $5 lower. At San Angelo 3,487 head sold in a one-day sale.

Equity Electronic Auction sold 284 slaughter lambs and 108 slaughter ewes in Nebraska. In direct trading no comparison on slaughter ewes and replacement ewes; feeder lambs were not tested. 4,800 head of negotiated sales of slaughter lambs were firm and 12,400 head of formula sales of dressed lambs under 55 lbs. were not well tested; 55-75 were $5-6 higher; 75-85 lbs. were $3-4 lower and over 85 lbs. were steady to $1 lower. 5,367 lamb carcasses sold with 45 lbs. and down $4.31 lower; 45-55 lbs. $13.32 lower; 55-65 lbs. $3.13 higher and 65 lbs. and up steady. 5,363 lamb carcasses sold with 45 lbs. and down $8.91 higher; 45-65 lbs. $3.55-3.57 higher; and 65 lbs. and up $.45-1.38 higher.

SLAUGHTER LAMBS Choice and Prime 2-3:

San Angelo: shorn and wooled 100-160 lbs. $100-118.

SLAUGHTER LAMBS Choice and Prime 1:

San Angelo: 40-60 lbs. $174-182; 60-70 lbs. $160-172, few $176-180; 70-80 lbs. $152-162, few 172; 80-90 lbs. $136-144, few $154; 90-110 lbs. $124- 139.

DIRECT TRADING (Lambs with 3-4 percent shrink or equivalent)

800 Slaughter Lambs shorn and wooled 135-200 lbs. $87.50- 130 (wtd avg $114.92); no dressed sales reported.

California: 1,200 Replacement Ewes ewe lambs 85-95 lbs. $130 per head.

SLAUGHTER EWES:

San Angelo: Good 2-3 (fleshy) $40-51; Utility and Good 1-3 (medium flesh) $55-68; Utility 1-2 (thin) $42.50- 56; Cull and Utility 1-2 (very thin) $40-45.

FEEDER LAMBS Medium and Large 1-2:

San Angelo: 60-90 lbs. $136-140, few $151; 90-105 lbs. $135-140.

REPLACEMENT EWES Medium and Large 1-2:

San Angelo: ewe lambs 103 lbs. $172 cwt; yearlings $200 per head; baby tooth 180 lbs. $74 cwt; solid mouth 178 lbs. $64 cwt.
