Washington initiative on genetically modified food looms

OLYMPIA, Wash. (AP) -- Companies would be required to label genetically modified food under an initiative sponsors are submitting Thursday in Olympia.

California voters rejected a similar proposal last year.

Opponents say GMO labeling would raise prices and hurt farmers.

Supporters have health concerns about genetic material inserted into foods and say consumers should have a choice.
