NYSSA, Ore. (AP) -- A Japanese company is looking into the Treasure Valley in far Eastern Oregon for production of azuki beans.

Reid Saito, a Nyssa farmer who grew a successful one-acre test plot, says the beans are made into a paste used for flavorings, desserts and confections.

The Ontario Argus Observer reports (http://bit.ly/W0BEon ) officials of the unnamed company met with farmers and looked at potential facilities.

Saito says the company is looking at other regions, and the beans are grown elsewhere in the U.S. and Canada.
