LANCASTER, Mass. (AP) -- Fire officials say a four-alarm blaze at Lancaster dairy farm caused an estimated $1.2 million in damage.
Deputy Chief Michael Hanson says the damage estimate at Manny's Dairy Farm is the highest he has seen in his 22 years as a firefighter in town.
No one was injured in the barn fire reported early Saturday afternoon. It appears no livestock was lost.
Hanson tells The Telegram & Gazette (http://bit.ly/XxtKEQ ) firefighters were able to stop the blaze from jumping to the farm's slaughterhouse, which was connected to the barn.
The cause remains under investigation. The state Fire Marshal's Office is assisting.
The barn was used for processing animal products.
About 75 firefighters from 21 area departments helped battle the blaze.
