Outstanding Tree Farmer named
The Oregon Tree Farm System Nov. 22 named former chairman and CEO of Louisiana-Pacific Corp. Harry Merlo as Oregon's Outstanding Tree Farmer of the Year for 2010.
Merlo owns and manages the 12,000-acre MC Ranch in Union County. About 8,500 acres of the ranch is forest managed for recreational use and sustainable forestry. It supports a range of wildlife.
Merlo founded and continues to support the World Forest Institute in Portland. The Merlo Foundation supports a variety of humanitarian causes, including programs for homeless street children.
Oregon's tree farmer of the year is selected by a team of professional foresters from a pool nominated by local chapters of the Oregon Small Woodlands Association.
