WSU Potato Field Day celebrates 50 years of seed trials
Washington State University is celebrating 50 years of commercial potato seed lot trials and its longstanding partnership with the Washington State Potato Commission.
The WSU potato field day begins at 8:30 a.m. June 27 at the WSU Othello Research Center at 1471 W. Cox Road, Othello.
WSU Extension horticulturist Mark Pavek said in a press release the trial annually assesses the disease load found in commercial potato seed lots, using seed from the U.S. and Canada. Growers and seed growers network and discuss results from the trial during the field day.
The 2013 field day includes the gift of three new center pivots, worth $170,000, to provide an update irrigated system at the research farm. The commission donated the system, which WSU researchers will use for the first time this year.
