OSU Columbia Basin Ag Research Center director departs
Steve Petrie, director of Oregon State University's Columbia Basin Agricultural Research Center for 12 years, is going to work for Yara US, one of the largest fertilizer companies in the world.
As manager of Yara's Agronomic Services unit, Petrie will be responsible for all agronomic activities in the western United States, including overseeing field research, working with sales and marketing professionals and dealing with regulatory and environmental agencies.
In an email, OSU College of Agricultural Sciences Dean Daniel Arp credited Petrie with providing leadership for faculty and staff at the Columbia Basin center, with facilities in Pendleton and Moro, Ore. Petrie forged enduring bonds for the center, the community and agriculture, Arp said.
"As a respected scientist, he also carried on a strong research program in soil fertility and plant nutrition and agronomic aspects of dryland cereals and potential alternative crops," Arp stated.
OSU is looking for an interim replacement.
