Improvement meeting to cover crucial topics

The joint annual meeting between the Washington State Crop Improvement Association and the Washington-North Idaho Seed Association will address issues that affect many of the region's farmers, said Jerry Robinson, manager of the association.

"There's a lot of things that actually help growers, frankly," Robinson said.

The meeting will take place Nov. 14-15 at the Mirabeau Park Hotel in Spokane Valley, Wash.

Robinson said the associations promote certified seed and educate growers and seed companies. The annual meeting includes current topics of interest to regional growers and companies.

Oregon State University, WestBred and Limagrain will offer presentations and updates on their breeding programs. BASF will provide an update on changes to the Beyond herbicide.

Other presentations include updates on nematodes, stripe rust and off-color seed kernels in some wheat varieties.

The gathering includes a breeder meeting to discuss various issues the evening of Nov. 13 and the annual board meeting.

"We're trying to help growers and seed dealers stay abreast of the new technology," Robinson said.

Cost to attend varies. For more information, contact the crop improvement association at 509-334-0461.
