Pioneer Hi-Bred is a DuPont subsidiary with headquarters in Des Moines, Iowa. The multinational company had $4.7 billion in sales in 2009. By comparison, Oregon agriculture grossed $4.1 billion in 2009.
Pioneer's 2009 sales represent a 17.5 percent increase from 2008 sales, when the company's revenue was $4 billion.
DuPont recently announced sales were up in its agriculture and nutrition sector in 2010, as well. Agriculture and nutrition delivered 16 percent sales growth to $3 billion in the second quarter of 2010, according to a July 27 DuPont report.
"North American seed business performance underpinned this growth with both price and volume increases, marking another year of solid share gains in both corn and soybeans," according to the report.
DuPont's agriculture and nutrition segment includes hybrid seed corn and soybean seed, herbicides, fungicides, insecticides, value-enhanced grain and soy protein.
