University plans several field days

Growers can tour Oregon State University research plots and hear research updates this month at Hyslop farm in Corvallis and the Hermiston Agricultural Research and Extension Center.

Extension Service specialists and researchers from the university's Department of Crop and Soil Science will host the annual Hyslop Farm Field Day from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. May 30.

The day will include presentations on winter wheat and barley varieties, management of wheat diseases, meadowfoam breeding, fiber flax planting date, uses of plant growth regulators and yellow dwarf virus in perennial ryegrass seed production.

A lunch will be provided, courtesy the Oregon Seed Council and the Oregon Wheat Growers League.

On May 31, OSU researchers and extension agents will conduct a tour of the Hermiston agricultural research center and provide updates on grass seed research.

The annual Hermiston Grass Seed Field Day runs from 8:30 a.m. to noon.
