Burn acreage registered

Growers this year have registered to open field burn just under 75,000 acres of grass seed in the Willamette Valley, including about 57,000 of regular burn acreage and 18,000 of identified species and steep terrain acreage.

With regular burning in the Willamette Valley this year restricted to 20,000 acres, growers are allowed to burn only 35 percent of the registered acreage.

With burning on identified species and steep slopes limited to 15,000 acres, growers with identified species and steep terrain are allowed to burn 84 percent of the registered acreage.

Burning season, which started last month, typically runs through the first week of October.
