Linfield College has announced it is offering a year-long program to prepare students for careers in the Oregon wine Industry.

With the help of a $48,000 grant from the Chicago-based James S. Kemper Foundation, the McMinnville, Ore., college is establishing the Oregon Wine Industry Experience.

The program will include a Summer Wine Institute, fall harvest experience, a wine career exploration course that begins in January and a spring internship at a Willamette Valley winery.

Wine industry professionals will host and teach courses during the 10-week summer course in grape growing, winemaking, bottling, distribution and marketing.

During the fall, Linfield students will work alongside harvest employees to learn about the harvesting process.

The program will operate under Linfield's Career Development Office and the Linfield Center for the Northwest.

The program will begin this summer.
