A federal court in San Francisco has postponed until December a hearing to begin managing fallout from a revoked approval of genetically modified sugar beets.

The hearing was originally scheduled for Oct. 30

In September Judge Jeffrey White overturned the government's approval of Monsanto's Roundup Ready sugar beet seeds because the USDA failed to complete an environmental impact statement.

Plaintiffs in the case are seeking an injunction barring the use of seeds already in stock.

Sugar beets are grown in 13 states, including Oregon, Washington, Idaho and California. Industry officials say 95 percent of the sugar beets grown this season were from Roundup Ready seeds, most of which were produced in Oregon's Willamette Valley.
