The Golden West FFA chapter finished the Tulare County Fair this past Sunday, September 16, 2012. With over 300 exhibits entered and more than 100 members participating, the Golden West FFA chapter had a very busy week. Members exhibited indoor plant exhibits, a fair landscape plot, a fair booth, fair banners, ag mechanics projects that included both electrical and rope working, and the tradtitional livestock projects.

Members entering indoor plants and ag mechanics projects all received first place ribbons. The fair booth took first place and the landscape plot received a third place ribbon. The fair banners came in second and third in their division.

In the sheep arena, students from Golden West exhibited nine market lambs weighing in between 100 and 140 pounds. Student projects were all judged to be market ready and sold at the auction on Saturday, September 16, 2012. The Golden West FFA Sheep team also received the clean stall award.

Eleven swine exhibitors showed and sold market hogs weighing between 200 and 280 pounds. The group won several market classes and took second in chapter group. Golden West FFA had a finalist in each round of pig showmanship and Nick Seymore, a sophmore student, won the honor of showing the Supreme Grand Champion Market Hog. Nick’s 274 pound crossbred barrow was sold in the Sale of Champions at the auction on Saturday.

Golden West FFA also had a beef exhibitor and a dairy exhibitor at this year’s fair. Jordan Dunn, a recent Golden West graduate, finished out his high school career by showing the Supreme Grand Chamion Dairy Heifer.

Overall, the members of Golden West FFA did an outstanding job at the Tulare Fair and all of their hardwork and efforts were certainly recognized.
