Ag board eyes opportunities for new farmers, ranchers

SACRAMENTO -- Opportunities for beginning farmers and ranchers will be discussed as the California Department of Food and Agriculture's board meets here June 4.

Invited speakers include Nathan Harkleroad of the Agriculture and Land-Based Training Association; Mary Kimball and Jennifer Taylor of the California Farm Academy; California Department of Veterans Affairs Undersecretary Michael Wells; and Michael O'Gorman of the Farmer Veteran Coalition.

Recent graduates of farm training programs will also discuss their experiences with the board and offer suggestions to encourage more people to become farmers, according to a state news release.

The meeting will be held from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. in the CDFA's main auditorium at 1220 N St., Sacramento.
