CHEHALIS, Wash. -- A winter storm dumped snow across parts of the Pacific Northwest Tuesday night and Wednesday morning.
In Western Washington, several feet fell on the Cascade Mountains, and measurable accumulations reached down to sea level.
Some areas saw more than a year's worth of snow fall overnight. The National Weather Service reported readings as deep as 21 inches near Chehalis, Wash., and 10 inches near Olympia.
Mike Peroni, at Boistfort Valley Farm in Lewis County, said he and his wife, Heidi, were up at 4:30, brushing off the greenhouses to make sure they didn't collapse under the snow's weight.
"We got 14 inches here in Curtis, and it pretty much shut us down," he said. "I hope it clears up soon, because we have a delivery of winter stuff going out next week."
The Chehalis River, which brought devastation to farms during a winter meltdown in December 2007, is projected to rise in the coming days, but not near flood stage, according to the U.S. Geological Survey.
At the state Capitol, several committee meetings were canceled and others were delayed.
