North Idaho FFA District members and officers have continued to stay busy even as the temperature continues to drop. Cayden Dimmick, North Idaho District President, Kayla Self, Troy FFA, and Ayla Neumeyer, North Idaho District Reporter were all present at the Idaho Farm Bureau Business Meeting on Wednesday, November 30, in Coeur D’Alene, Idaho.
These members spent the day helping with microphones while the various counties’ representatives debated about the proposed policies for the upcoming year. The policies ranged anywhere from water rights to laws for bicyclists. These are in place to form the Idaho Farm Bureau stance on various issues when lobbyists meet with politicians throughout the year. A few of the Idaho Policies will even go on to the National Farm Bureau.
Aside from helping an organization that advocates for agriculture, this was a great opportunity for the members based on the knowledge they were able to gain alone. The debate on certain policies became very heated, and it often presented sides of each issue which may not have been outwardly apparent. This made the experience even more educational.
In addition, the three members, along with Troy FFA Advisor Steve Braun, were able to join the Idaho Farm Bureau members for lunch. Along with visiting with various Farm Bureau members, they were able to witness a presentation on Idaho Farm Bureau’s Mobile Ag Classroom. This travels throughout the state teaching elementary students about agriculture.
The North Idaho District FFA members are fortunate to have so many opportunities to learn about and participate in agriculture. Members will continue to do this in their chapters and will be attending more district and state FFA events starting again in January.
