Chelan FFA Competes at University of Washington PAC Forest Research Facility

The Chelan FFA timber beasts traveled over the mountains the University of Washington PAC Forest Research facility for the 2012 edition of the Washington State FFA Forestry Career Development Event on Friday April 27th.  Fourteen teams from 11 schools were represented. Members competed in a variety of practicums including Timber Management Assessment, Timber Management Plan team Presentation, Individual Timber Cruising, Tree Identification and Tool Identification. 

The team of Jake Straub, Sean Hess, Javier Rivera, Billy Poppie, and Michael LaHaye closed out the 2012 Forestry CDE season bringing  home the fourth place hardware Jake Straub won his second top ten individual plaque in a State FFA CDE this year adding a third place plaque for forestry to the second place apple plaque from this fall.  The team stood out winning the Forest Management Plan Team presentation.  The Chelan Chapter had an exceptional spring season earning second place finish in Colville, third place finish in Wenatchee, and now the fourth place plaque at state.  Four of the five members of the forestry team will be returning for next year and they are committed to making a run at state and earning a trip to the National FFA Forestry CDE in Louisville.
